Former member TeamNL, founder KTT Dordrecht & shorttrack coach.

Knut coaching athletes on ice

From Athlete to Coach

Knut spent half of the 1990s and early 2000s on the Dutch national shorttrack team (TeamNL), winning multiple Dutch distance titles, setting national relay records with the team, and competing at World Cups, European Championships and World Championships.

After retiring from elite competition he earned a Coaching Master degree from the Johan Cruyff Institute and completed an NLP Practitioner diploma. He followed advanced sports physiology courses with Henk Kraaijenhof and his education is complemented by specialised speedskating courses and master classes. Plus don't forget the countless hours Knut spent watching speedskating at ice rinks, on video and on tv. Observing athletes, constantly looking for improvements en new techniques.

Knut was one of the initiators and coach of the current KNSB Talent Team (KTT) Dordrecht. Currently, Knut is head coach at the Shorttrack Academy in Leiden. An initiative started by, amongst others, former TeamNL Olympian and NOS shorttrack commentator Cees Juffermans.

After a professional career, raising a young family, and an introduction into Martial Arts and Zen meditation, Knut is back on the ice. Calmer, more conscious, more intuitive, and sharper than ever.

Coaching Philosophy

What makes Knut unique is his calm, intuitive, sensor-rich approach. He "smells, tastes and feels" movement patterns, then translates that perception into precise, personalised drills — always grounded in proven physiological principles, complemented with knowledge from the Shaolin Martial Arts en Zen tradition.
